A while back, RM Sotheby’s commissioned me to photograph a beautiful silver Ferrari Daytona in the City of London. The brief was to shoot the car in an editorial style, using the modern architecture around 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin) as a backdrop.
We worked through the evening as the light faded, which gave us a nice transition from soft dusk into night. The contrast between the elegant lines of the classic Ferrari and the sharp geometry of the surrounding buildings worked particularly well.
Here’s how the shoot came together.
Rear view with The Gherkin in the background
One of the strongest frames from the evening. The glowing tail lights against the modern glass architecture created a really atmospheric shot.

Front three-quarter view in the evening light
Clean and elegant. Shot while there was still some natural light, which gave the bodywork a beautiful soft quality and highlighted the car’s graceful proportions.

Front three-quarter view at night
The same angle once the city lights came up. The purple reflections from the surrounding buildings completely changed the mood and added real drama to the image.

Rear three-quarter view at night
Another angle that shows off the Ferrari’s beautiful stance and flowing lines against the modern London architecture.

A slightly different position that emphasises the car’s side profile and elegant silhouette in the evening light.

Interior dashboard view
Looking out from behind the wheel. Through the windscreen, you can see the distinctive shape of The Gherkin. These kinds of interior details are always important when photographing cars for auction houses and collectors.

Front seats and cabin detail
The beautiful blue leather interior with its distinctive stitching was a key part of the story. These details help convey the quality and character of the car.

Engine bay detail
Even on a car this elegant, the mechanical side matters. Clean, well-lit engine shots are always appreciated by serious buyers and collectors.

Shooting classic cars in London always brings its own challenges with changing light, but the location and the car worked beautifully together. I was really pleased with how the images captured both the elegance of the Ferrari Daytona and the atmosphere of the City.
